Basic and Intermediate Plant ID

Minimum 5 people per group, organized as needed. Basic will allow you to be able identify no less than 5 edible/medicinal plants in season as well as how to use them. Intermediate will allow you to identify no less than 15 edible/medicinal plants in season as well as how to use them.
Basic Land Navigation
$ 150.00
Minimum 5, max 10 people. Provides knowledge of wilderness travel working with map, compass, and ground. Mostly classroom work with about an hour outside verifying practical exercises.
Intermediate Land Navigation
$ 250.00 Per Person
Minimum 5, max 10 people. This course will expand that knowledge of working and integrating map, compass, ground and GPS. Production of route cards, identifying hazards, walking bearings, and aiming off to go around large impassable areas. About a half- day in classroom, the balance in the field allowing you to become proficient in moving through the wilderness and confident in your ability to find your way.
Advanced Land Navigation

Minimum 5, max 10 people.
This course will draw on all other facets of navigation you have learned and practiced, further expanding that knowledge of integrating map, compass, ground, and GPS work with night-time travel.
Emergency Survival Skills

Minimum 5, max 10 people.
Training consists of basic supplies you have on hand to ensure your safety in any emergency situation along with the basic skills needed to use that equipment.
Basic Survival Skills

Minimum 5, max 10 people.
Training consists of knife safety training and handling, creating a store of basic equipment you must carry with you to ensure your safety in any emergency situation such as shelters, fire-making aids, essential food, water, and clothing requirements along with the key skills needed to use that equipment.
Wilderness Living Skills

Minimum 5, max 10 people.
This course completes your journey to self-sufficiency in the wilderness. Building on skills, tools, and equipment taught in previous courses, you will now have the confidence in all aspects of wilderness survival and living skills which has taken you from zero to absolutely comfortable in your wilderness excursions. We expand on all the facets of skill level development that has led you from neophyte to seasoned apprentice and opening your mind to future discoveries, all in one week. This is your course, it is not stressful, and we are learning to live, not just survive. We also teach you to do as well with improvised expedient tools and life-saving equipment from your area, spending nights in any weather comfortably, with little or no equipment.
BRB Kids Program
$150.00 Per Person
This course is specifically designed for children 10-16 years. For the safety of both children and instructors, a parent MUST attend this course with their child. Minimum 6, max 12 people, including parent. This is conducted Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings for 2 weeks ending with an overnight camp to test your new skills the Saturday and Sunday of the final week of training.
Basic Bushcraft Tool Use and Care
$ 300.00 Per Person
Minimum 5, max 10 people.
Training consists of proper handling skills of such tools as various types of knives, axes, saws, and their maintenance and care while in the field, paying special attention to the versatility of each and the complementary advantages of combining them. Although no tools or materials will be supplied by the school, they may be available for sale the day of the course. Participants would need a fixed-blade sheath-knife, an ax or hatchet (complete with mask), a file, a sharpening stone or puck, a saw that would be packable by the owner/user in a field situation. Contact us for tool suggestions or availability of purchase items for the first day of course.
Basic Wilderness Tool Manufacture
$150 per person
Minimum 5, max 10 people. Training consists of building camp implements such as kitchen tools (spoons, tongs, cooking tri-pods, camp kitchens, pot hangers, etc.) and camp tools (brooms, seats, tables, etc.). Although no tools or materials will be supplied by the school, some may be available for sale the day of the course. Participants would need a sharp knife, cordage of their preference, a tarp (min 8’x8′).
Disaster and Emergency Preparation
$150.00 Per Person
Minimum 5, max 15 people. Basic Vehicle Emergency Kits and 72-hr (“Bug-Out”) Kits.
“Shelter-In-Place” Disaster Preparation is a one-on-one consultation basis since it includes assessment of your resources and area, as well as a plan to ensure disaster preparation and reasons to bug-out with your family.
Outdoor Cooking Techniques
$200.00 Per Person
Minimum 5, max 15 people. Nobody wants to eat hotdogs for a week in the woods and simple techniques exist that can be applied anywhere to greatly improve the camping experience as well as group morale on those rough days. Training consists of various methods of preparing and cooking simple or gourmet meals outside using an open fire, fire-pit, various petroleum-fueled devices and including baking with each method. All cookware and supplies will be provided. Students will leave with a minimum of 3 methods they can use to create masterpiece meals no matter how far away from “civilization” they may be with a minimum of fuss, equipment, and preparation.
When booking the services of Beaver River Bushcraft, funds are due upon confirmation of booking. Any client withdrawing from any course will be refunded 50% of the full registration cost. If the client chooses to withdraw with less than 30 days’ notice prior to course beginning, then there will be no refund. Beaver River Bushcraft reserves the right to refuse a student’s participation at any time during the course should safety of that client become a factor. All courses are subject to applicable AB sales tax.
Clients will be responsible for all transportation, gear, wilderness fees, and meals while on course.
